Avant le Punk, il y avait un groupe qui s’appelait Death. Ils faisaient du rock, quelque chose de différent. Aujourd’hui, on appelle ça du proto punk. L’autre particularité de ce groupe : il était formé par trois hommes noirs. Trois frères.
Before there was Punk, there was A band called Death. They played rock, something different. Today, we call it proto punk. Another unique feature of this band: it was formed by three black men. Three brothers.
Lorsque je les ai découverts, j’ai été étonnée par leur son très actuel. Et je n’ai pas compris comment toute une industrie avait pu passer à côté de leur talent pendant tant de décennies. Car à l’époque de sa création, Death n’a pas été signé. C’était impossible. Pas avec ce nom. Et pour eux, il était impensable de transiger sur quoi que ce soit, menant le groupe à la séparation. Mais leur histoire ne pouvait pas s’arrêter là…
When I discovered them, I was amazed by how current they sounded. I couldn’t understand how an entire industry could have overlooked their talent for so many decades. Because at the time of theur creation, nobody would signed Death. It was impossible. Not with that name. And for them, it was unthinkable to compromise on anything, leading the band to break up. But their story could not end there…
