Adrian Thaws, de son vrai nom, n’a jamais été un artiste de compromis. Après avoir quitté Massive Attack en 1994, un groupe qu’il a pourtant contribué à définir, il a passé trois décennies à brouiller les pistes, mélangeant rock, électronique et soul. Mais toujours un leitmotiv : l’authenticité brute. Avec Different When It’s Silent, il poursuit sa route avec une maturité nouvelle. On retrouve des échos du passé mais une teinte franchement ultra moderne.
Adrian Thaws, as he is known by his real name, has never been an artist who compromises. After leaving Massive Attack in 1994, aband he helped to define, he has spent three decades blurring the lines, blending rock, electronic and soul. But there’s always been one recurring theme: raw authenticity. With Different When It’s Silent, he continues on his path with a newfound maturity. There are echoes of the past, but with a distinctly ultra-modern edge.
Et il ne fait pas seul et je trouve qu’en art la collaboration c’est plus qu’essentiel. Sur l’album c’est Mitch Sanders, présent sur la quasi-totalité des titres. Il y a une alchimie, un dialogue continu, une conversation à voix basse entre deux artistes qui se comprennent sans mots. Il y a des morceaux épurées, comme des souffles faits de silences et de sens.
And he’s not doing it alone and I believe that in art, collaboration is absolutely essential. On the album, it’s Mitch Sanders, who features on almost every track. There’s a chemistry, a constant dialogue, a whispered conversation between two artists who understand each other without words. There are stripped-back tracks, like breaths made of silence and meaning.
